CEE7 Cords

CEE7 standards explained:  The International Electrotechnical Commission for Electrical Equipment (IECEE) is commonly known as IEC and many of their standards are commonly referred to as CEE.  The IECEE was established in London in 1906 to try and establish uniform standards across multiple countries.

The Commission created many different versions of the CEE7 power cord connectivity standard including the CEE7/5 adapted by France, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia and also the CEE7/4 Schuko German standard adopted by most of the rest of Europe.  

The primary difference between the two is how grounding is handled.  The CEE7/5 uses a female round prong whereas the CEE7/4 uses ground straps on the top and bottom areas of the connectors.

The CEE7/7 is a hybrid or combination of both the CEE7/5 and CEE7/4 and offers functionality in almost all European countries.

Schuko Cords

Schuko defined:  Schuko is a German term for "earthed" or grounded and is a common name used for the IEC CEE7/4 Continental European power cord electrical connections.  The standard is comprised of two round pins 4.8mm in diameter that are 19mm long and 19mm apart from each other.  Ground straps are located on top and bottom and you can see what they look like below in the YP-23 straight version or YP-22 right angle version.
